Tutorials
There is a substantial skills gap between traditional training in historical studies and digital humanities. And while has changed in the last twenty years, the tools one might use to explore historical data digitally have become more powerful and, arguably, more complex. The use of Wikibase in this project and my experience with Wikidata in the Mapping the Scottish Reformation project with Professor Michelle D. Brock reflected a need to find tools and devise workflows that offer traditionally-trained researchers a route into using digital methodologies in their research, without extensive training.
This section of the General Assemblies website is an attempt to document the methodology behind the project. The intention is that such documentation can be a point of entry for subsequent researchers, whatever their specialism or point of focus. The list of tutorials listed below will grow alongside the project.
This projects shares much of its DNA with previous efforts to use Wikidata and/or Wikibase. These projects include the Map of Accused Witches in Scotland, Mapping the Scottish Reformation and the Semantic Name Authority Repository Cymru (SNARC) project at the National Library of Wales. You may find it useful to find out more about these projects.
